Common Questions
What do I need to bring?
All you need to bring is a towel (bath size), a large bottle of water and dress to sweat (light tight fitting clothes are recommended for comfort). Mat hire is included for your first class while on the Newcomer Intro Pass and we also rent towels for $2 if needed.
Do I need to book?
You can book classes online via the Mind Body App or walk straight into the school and sign up at reception. Please arrive 10-15 minutes prior to your class as late arrivals will not be permitted to join class.
I’m not very flexible or fit… Is Bikram Yoga hard?
If you think you are not flexible or fit you are in the right place! Remember that everyone (even your teacher) has been a first-timer at some point. Our classes are for beginners and are suitable to all levels of fitness, so you’ll be well looked after… Your teacher will take care of you and point you in theright direction throughout the class. There is a great saying, “the action of trying to do the posture, is the posture”. As long as you try the right way you will still get the benefits and in no time at all you will be doing things you never thought possible. Please remember to mention any injuries or medications you may be on to your teacher before class.
How much water should I drink?
Hydration before class is very important. Try and drink around 500ml of water an hour before class then another litre over the next hour after class. Sip slowly on water during class if required. It is also recommended that you don’t consume a heavy meal (2 hours prior to your class) as it may make you feel nauseous.
Where can I leave my belongings?
Leave all your belongings (including mobile phones) in the change rooms. Locks are available by providing an id or $10 cash deposit or you can bring your own padlock.
Can I just try one class before I sign up to the Newcomer Intro Pass?
Absolutely! You can purchase one casual drop in class before you purchase the Newcomer Intro Pass. Keep in mind if you only do one class, trust us, you will not see or feel the full benefits of the series. This is why we offer an affordable month pass so you can make an informed decision if Bikram Yoga is for you.
We look forward to seeing you in the hot room!
Yoga Etiquette
SHOES: Please do not to wear your shoes in the school. Remove shoes at the stairs. If they are valuable then lock them in the lockers. Wearing thongs in the showers is ok; please remember to take them off after you finish showering.
THE HOT ROOM: The yoga room is a quiet place. Please respect your fellow yogis and keep your conversations outside the hot room. Many students having arrived from a busy day at work are looking to come and unwind with their yoga. If you enter the room before class begins, please always lie with feet facing away from the front mirror in the yoga room.
FRONT ROW: The front row is where you will find the most experienced students practicing. If you are in the front row you are expected to lead by example. You need to be very focused and still. Not diving for your water, not wiping your sweat. Your postures do not need to be perfect but we need for you to have a good understanding of the series to lead the class.
STAY IN THE HOT ROOM: Stay in the class to keep the body temperature steady and to keep the class moving together. We encourage everyone to stay in the hot room for the entire 90 minute class. Leaving and re-entering causes the body temperature to fluctuate and can be distracting for other students. Some of the medical benefit is directly related to the heated room.
CLASS STARTS ON TIME: Please arrive at the school with plenty of time to get yourself changed and into class. Latecomers will not be permitted. Newcomers need to be at least 10 – 15 minutes early.
WATER: We ask that you refrain from drinking water up until the completion of the third posture. The teacher will inform the class of the first water break. After this time you can drink water when needed. Please drink water between postures.
SAVASANA: Final Savasana is compulsory. Students must not leave the class until the teacher has left the room. The traditional benefits of Savasana restore your nervous system to its default settings and offer your mind a chance to sink into meditation. This is a precious few minutes that everyone should take the time to enjoy.
